How can a dead chicken atone for your sins?
by Fisherman inthe article says that the dead chickens are given to the poor but i was told that the chickens are thrown into the garbage.
(who could possibly eat a chicken full of sin?).

Jehovah uses the government to discipline his people
by StephaneLaliberte ini had a conversation with my dad concerning the legal cases the jws are loosing and how their policies are still lacking.
he answered that he has confidence that jehovah will give his people the wisdom and discernment necessary to make the changes.
i then explained that most of the improvements were made as a result of various court cases, including the australian commission.. my dad: well, than, jehovah uses the governments to discipline his people just like he did with the jews.

If we could break down JW logic it would read like this sentence: "It means what we want it to at the time we need it to mean what we want it to."

Forgive me but I love the old Perry Mason's. Always on late at night but I like them. It's fun to see all those actors from way back in their first performances and c'mon, Perry is a fricken genius!
Movies? So I Married An Axe Murderer.

can you still record the talks at assemblies?
by greenhornet inyears ago my parents would record these talks and play them back all the time.
when they both died, we cleaned out the house and found 50 plus cassette tapes of recorded talks and they were labeled the year and the speaker at the time.
that was in the year 2000. we just gave them to there jw friends because i did not want to keep them for recording of music.

Sometime in the late 90's they discouraged taping talks. CO's complained that some were getting a following via such tapes. Others complained they were running out of material because everyone had heard their best talks. Then there was directive that only elders could record district talks and would control who could hear them. Now they are online I believe, no need to record them.

God will not let you suffer more than you can bare.
by StephaneLaliberte ini had a conversation with an old jw friend and he spent a good part of the evening preaching to me.
as i am “inactive”, i am forced to stay low, thus, i was not argumentative.
yet, at one moment, he said that angels protect jws in field service and other situations.

It's an old trope they haul out every once in a while. I know it well. They quote the bible about "James the brother of the lord" being allowed to die and someone with him surviving. Its so much piffle. So sorry you couldn't give the idiot what for.

Have you seen Eraserhead (1977)? ... spoilers!
by LoveUniHateExams ini had heard a bit about it, most of it positive.
i typed 'eraserhead review' into youtube and quite a few videos came up that presumably attempted to explain the film.. i couldn't be arsed watching a youtube vid with some artsy-fartsy person droning on about eraserhead and lynch so i thought i'd start an op about it instead.. i bought the dvd a few days ago.
i gotta say, it's quite a strange film.

I saw it in an Artsy theater when it came out. Can you say "pretentious"? I found it full of itself and pointless. Anyone can assign the meaning they wish. I guess its a bit Dada-ish. It wasn't for me. Everyone in college I knew felt compelled to sing its praises. When alone they would honestly say they could have cared less.

Learning To Believe Again
by The_Seeker ini was raised a jw and left the organization when i was 18 years old.
many thought i left because i wanted to live a life full of drugs, sex, and rock and roll, which was not true at all.
i left because i realized that these people had no idea what they were talking about and were simply parroting what the, " society " , told them to believe.

Vultures - said the CO
by punkofnice ini was in a congregation where the po was also the co. a bit of n old curmudgeon.
he's no longer with us.. i remember him getting rather sarcy (that's 'snarky' to my american cousins), about how the local jobos would descend on someone new entering the kingdum he££ to try to get a 'study(tm)' and make 'placements(tm)' with the newbie.
not to mention 'love bombing'.. he said from the pratt-form that he didn't want the 'publishers(tm)' become 'vultures'.. i agreed with him.. by extension (typical jobo term), i noticed a certain preciousness about things...perhaps even a corrosive jealousy about things.. eg: if someone gave an 'experience(tm)' in a 'comment(tm)' about how they converted the universe and its dog (almost), to jobo-ism, (well not really, but you know, something more credible), the elder or whomever would ignore it, blank it as if they were envious.

If someone was assigned to give an experience at an assembly, they were either held in high esteem or derided because those in the know were aware of how embellished the story was. Bullshit experiences were very common from the platform, Once you were aware of the fake experiences from your congregation being presented, you became skeptical of all experiences given.
Experiences were bragging rights for sure. Poor fellow "publishers" who had none resented those who bragged, and again most experiences were BS.
